TYLER – The Henderson Lions split a pair of district games here Tuesday night with the Lady Lions winning 43-35, but the Lions losing 53-48 to the Cumberland Academy Knights.

Both Tatum’s boys and girls powerlifting teams kicked off the 2020 season with a strong showing at the Lindale Invitational this past Saturday. It was not only the first meet of the season for the Eagle powerlifters but also the first meet ever for any of these athletes. 

The Lady Lions appeared to have everything under control Friday night building a half-time lead of 22-14 behind the low post play of Taylor Helton, who scored 10 of her 18 points in the first half.

MT. ENTERPRISE – Brett Roland hit seven long-range bombs en route to a 28-point performance as the Carlisle Indians barreled through the Overton Mustangs 56-32 in the opening round of the Michael Nix Tournament Thursday.

NEW LONDON – The West Rusk Raiders played host to the Australian Horizon Crocs Friday night defeating them by 20 points in non-conference action.

PRICE - After starting the season 0-2, the Carlisle Indians rallied to go 7-1 the rest of the way to claim second place in District 10-2A and will face Leon in the first round of the playoffs Thursday night at Palestine Westwood. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

What was once a four-way tie for three playoff spots in District 10, Class 4A football has been sorted out as the Henderson Lions defeated the Van Vandals 35-20 to claim third place in the district race.

PRICE - Carlisle kicked off the District 10-2A slate with an easy 34-0 shutout over Cushing last week, but the hill gets a lot steeper Friday night when the Indians travel to Alto to take on the No. 8 state-ranked Yellowjackets.

PRICE - It was a night when everything went right for Carlisle and everything went wrong for Overton in a clash between two Rusk County rivals ended with a 76-0 win for the host Indians.

Leveretts Chapel’s DeQuincy Brown races in the open field Friday night. The Lions won 56-31 over Finnindal. 

PLANO – Six Texas high school football stars have been recognized in the second week of the 2019 Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program.

The Henderson Lions team tennis squad defeated Chapel Hill Thursday in the opening district match of the season 13-6.

In the off chance my sports tracking buddies haven’t been paying attention, the State of California legislature has sent a bill to the governor’s office relating to paying college athletes for “gaming likeness” and such.

PLANO – Six Texas high school football stars have been recognized in the first week of the 2019 Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program.

The Pleasant Grove Hawks, a much larger squad in Class 4A-DII, took advantage of Henderson miscues to win a non-conference game 40-7 at Lions Stadium Friday night. 

West Rusk’s Kicker Andon Mata boots the ball away. The Raiders were 35-19 winners over Waskom in non-conference action. The Raiders are 2-0 and will play Harmony Friday.

Grace Colley served 11 points in a row en route to a match high 15 points Tuesday night at the Henderson Lady Lions defeate Longview Pine Tree 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20.
