Bobbie Jo Barton Wheeler of Henderson, Texas, passed away January 31, 2021, in Tyler after a brief illness.
Jo was born September 16, 1929, in Irving, Texas, to Floyd Barton and Trudy Trimble Barton. Her childhood was spent in Irving, Prewitt, New Mexico, and Yazoo City, Mississippi, where she met her future husband, L.D. “Bud” Wheeler. They married Jan. 17, 1947, and were married 60 years before Bud’s death in 2007, making their home in Grand Prairie and Mt. Pleasant before retiring to Henderson.
Jo owned and operated Rogers’ Hardware Store in Mt. Pleasant for several years, where she was known to have a pot of soup or stew on the wood stove most days for anyone who wanted to stop by for a visit. In earlier years, Jo had enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader and being involved in church youth groups, as well as cooking, gardening and studying family history.
She was a member of Henderson Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by her sisters, Billie Louise and Betty Joyce Barton, and son and daughter-in-law Bart and Nita Wheeler. She is survived by sons Scott and Marc (Chris) Wheeler, grandchildren Jason (Kyla) Wheeler, Matthew (Kristen) Wheeler, and Anne (Glenn) Tabakian, and great- grandchildren Ryan (Andy) Patillo, Zac, Dusty, Brody, Gracie, Emma, Rowan, and Lyndon Wheeler, Norah and Frances Tabakian, Andy Enloe, and Ali (David) Lang, as well as four great-great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial will be held on Saturday, February 20, at 2 p.m., at Lakewood Cemetery in Henderson. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family asks those who attend to wear masks and observe physical distancing.
