The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens to keep their vehicles locked after a string of burglaries in the Tatum area over the weekend.
The RCSO posted this statement to its Facebook page Monday: “Thefts from unlocked vehicles are an all too common problem that can be prevented by simply locking your vehicle. Never leave valuables in your vehicle, but if you must…lock them up and keep them out of sight. Although the typical mindset is “if they want to break into your car, they will,” That is rarely the case. Most vehicle burglaries in Rusk County occur due to vehicles being left unlocked. Through many interviews with suspects, locked vehicles are often passed up and they move to the next car or truck, especially if nothing of value is seen from outside. Please remember to lock your doors and remove valuable items. As always, report any suspicious activity.”
