Entire towns went dark Monday night due to a widespread unexplained power outage on the Southwestern Power Company (SWEPCO) system.
Although Henderson, Mt. Enterprise, Joinerville, New London, and Laneville residents reported outages in their areas, the situation was much more widespread, with outages reported in both Louisana and Arkansas.
“At this point, we are still assessing the cause. We had just over 8,000 customers lose power around 7:45 p.m. last night and had everyone back on by 10 p.m.,” said SWEPCO Communications Consultant Michelle Marcotte. Many customers have reported much later re-connection times, with some as late as 3 a.m., Tuesday. SWEPCO’s outage map still showed a handful of reported outages in all three affected states early Tuesday morning.
Approximately 5,500 customers serviced by Rusk County Electric Cooperative (RCEC) were also affected as their lines were fed by SWEPCO transmission.
In a turn of events that may or may not be related to the as yet unexplained outage, SWEPCO’s website is also experiencing some traffic issues.
