An Overton man was arrested on two counts of burglary after he was allegedly caught breaking into one home through the bedroom window and a baseball bat with his initials was allegedly found in another home.

Austin Taylor Henson, 22, was arraigned by Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace Joe Sorrells on two counts of second degree burglary of a habitation and Class B theft of property charges in August 2016.

Henson was one of 25 indicted this month by the Rusk County Grand Jury.

According to a complaint filed by Overton Police Capt. Gabe Wallace, a woman had come home from an out-of-town trip to find that her house had been burglarized.

Wallace said the woman told Chief Clyde Carter she believed Henson was responsible because allegedly “a baseball bat was left at her home with the initials A. H. on it.”

“She claims Henson had been coming over to her home and was beating on the windows,” Wallace added.

The captain said Henson agreed to speak with Carter at the police station and when he arrived, he was wearing a “red T-shirt with I love Jesus on it. He claims [the woman] gave it to him. Carter contacted [the woman] who claims she did not give Henson the shirt, it had been taken during the burglary.”

According to a second complaint filed by Wallace, while Henson was at the police station, he allegedly told Carter that a residence in the 300 block of Bradford had been burglarized.
