On Wednesday, January 13, 2021 the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Texas Rangers of an alleged assault complaint against Deputy Charles Elmore. The criminal investigation by the Texas Rangers is ongoing and an internal Professional Standards Investigation is being conducted by the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.

At the time of this release, Deputy Charles Elmore has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of these investigations. He has been formally charged with Class A (misdemeanor) Assault and has been booked into the Rusk County Jail. A bond has been set.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office is cooperating fully with the Texas Rangers and we want to assure the citizens of Rusk County that this agency will exhibit integrity, transparency and professionalism.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office extends our thoughts and prayers to the victim in this case.

At the appropriate time, the community will be updated as to the progress of the internal investigation.
