Within 25 hours of the initial call, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office has apprehended the suspect in the Tuesday night shooting of Henderson resident, Scott Reneau.
Demarcus Lenard Lewis, 25, was taken into custody Thursday, January 28 at a residence outside of Kilgore.
He has been arraigned in the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5 court of Judge Jana Enloe on the charge of Capital Murder/Other Capital Felony. His bond was set at $1.5 million.
Sheriff John Wayne Valdez again expressed appreciation for the Henderson Police Department, the Rusk County District Attorney's office, U.S. Marshall Service, Smith County Sheriff's Office, and Nacogdoches SWAT for their help in the investigation and apprehension of this suspect.
"I made sure we had all the tools that we needed to make sure that this [arrest] came to a very safe and uneventful conclusion," said Sheriff Valdez on his inclusion of the Nacogdoches SWAT team in the immediate apprehension of Lewis, who had been considered armed and dangerous.
Lewis had been arrested and arraigned as recently as November 26, 2020, on the charges of Delivery of Marijuana, a State Jail felony, Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Program 1, and Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Program 2, both first degree felonies.
