Henderson’s Mayor Pro-tem, Melissa Morton, has been appointed to represent the city on the East Texas Council of Governments board, it was announced at the July 9 city council meeting.
Morton is a four-term city council member that services City District 4.
“I look forward to the opportunity to serve my community on a larger scale, along with continuing my service as a council member,” Morton said. “I am honored and blessed with my appointment to ETCOG.”
ETCOG is a volunteer organization developed to work with city, county, school and other jurisdictions in providing planning assistance on common goals.
“We are very pleased to have Mayor Pro Tem Melissa Morton appointed to our board of directors,” said Lindsay Vanderbilt, ETCOG’s spokesperson. “As a member ofa ETCOG, Henderson has two positions on our board of directors, which meets twice a year to help guide our regional planning efforts. The ETCOG board of directors will vote on our FY 2020 Budget on Sept. 19 in Pittsburg at its semi-annual meeting.”
ETCOG serves Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Marion, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood counties.
