One month after the Mount Enterprise City Council decided to retain City Administrator Rosena Becker-Ross it was agreed by a 3-2 vote to fire her during their regular meeting Tuesday night.
With no attorneys present and one of the shortest executive sessions by the council in months Council member Brandon Jones made the motion.
“I make a motion to terminate Rosena Becker-Ross effective immediately,” said Jones.
The motion was seconded and a vote called for by Mayor Harvey Graves.
The three newest council members Brandon Jones, Jim Reeves and Freddy Swan voted yes to terminate Becker-Ross. Incumbents Johnny Fry and Judy Cox voted no.
At the beginning of the meeting during public comments Kay Waggon, a citizen of Mount Enterprise slammed the council for their treatment of Becker-Ross.
“I’m disappointed in the council for the way you have treated Rosena Becker-Ross,” said Waggon. “She has been abandoned by the Council after working faithfully for the city for years.”
It wasn’t enough to convince the Council, they fired Becker-Ross.
Nine days after the vote to retain Becker-Ross on unpaid leave at the May 7 Council Meeting, a post appeared on the Facebook page of XETX Business Solutions in Nacogdoches that Becker-Ross had joined their team as an administrative assistant.
It is unclear at the present how the above decisions will affect the ongoing lawsuits between former City Marshall Patrick Sweeney who was fired last August, Becker-Ross and the City.
The Council also voted 5-0 to start searching for a new full-time City Secretary by posting an advertisement in The Henderson News for one week.
During this interim, the Council voted unanimously to hire CPA Dian C. Bentley of Henderson to assist with the various reports, filings and accounting obligations for city business.
Tabled was the agenda item to consider changing to Eastex Telephone for their communications and internet needs.
