One man died and another was injured after a two vehicle wreck on Texas Highway 64 Saturday.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s preliminary crash investigation, at approximately 8:33 p.m., troopers responded to a two vehicle wreck on Texas Highway 64, eight miles west of Henderson.
According to DPS Sgt. Jean Dark, the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Manuela Mata of Henderson, was traveling east on Texas Highway 64 approaching a disabled motorist that was on the eastbound shoulder and other vehicle had stopped to help.
At the same time, a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Christopher Potts, 39, of Henderson, was traveling west on the highway. As Mata passed the vehicles that were stopped on the shoulder, he drifted across the yellow center stripe and struck the Avalanche.
Mata, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Jerdy Wolverton. He was transported to Crawford A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson.
Potts was transported to UT Health-Tyler in serious condition and was released Sunday.
