As another Thanksgiving holiday comes and goes and December approaches, planning for the Henderson Christmas Parade has been well underway.
Henderson will kick off the holiday season with the lighting of the Christmas tree at 6 p.m., next Thursday, in Heritage Square. Vietnam veteran Don Easley will be lighting the tree this year.
Henderson’s annual Christmas parade will then begin downtown at 6:30 p.m.
The Thursday night parade, sponsored by the City of Henderson and the Rotary Club of Henderson, will not incorporate a specific theme this year to allow entries to attend other local parades.
Parade coordinator Laura Wilkerson said there are 67 entires so far this year. Parade entries will be accepted until Monday.
“We are excited about it,” said Wilkerson. “It gets better and better every year.”
Traditionally the parade is held on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving, barring inclement weather.
A rain date has been set for Dec. 6 if needed.
