An Overton man has died from injuries sustained following a Saturday wreck.
Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a two-vehicle wreck at 6:26 p.m. Saturday, on Farm-to-Market Road 3053, five miles west of the City of Kilgore.
According to the preliminary crash investigation release by DPS Sgt. Jean Dark, the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, Catarino Gallardo (C.G.) Mata, 76, was traveling west on County Road 2729 and disregarded the stop sign at FM 3053 when he was struck by a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 that was northbound on FM 3053.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as Robert John Martin, 50, of Overton. Martin and three passengers in his vehicle, 13 and 14-year-old females and a 9-year-old male were transported to Good Shepard Medical Center in Kilgore where they were treated and released.
Mata was transported to UT Health-Tyler where he was pronounced by Judge Mitch Shamburger early the next morning.
All occupants were shown to have been wearing seat belts and the crash remains under investigation.
A traditional rosary will be 6 p.m. Wednesday followed immediately by visitation at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore for Mata. There will be a memorial mass 3 p.m. Thursday, at Christ the King Catholic Church of Kilgore.
