According to reports provided by the Department of State Health Services and information provided by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the estimated active cases within Rusk County increased dramatically to 562 from the last reported total of 105.
The Department of State Health Services reported 1,819 total confirmed cases within the county, an increase of 28 from the 1,791 last reported. The county’s recovery total stood at 2,557, a substantial and unexplained decrease from the last reported total of 2,911. The DSHS recently added probable COVID-19 totals for the county, and those numbers rest at 1,373.
The cumulative testing total for the county stands at 17,730. Rusk County’s fatality total grew to 73.
The Department of State Health Services COVID-19 dashboard reports 5,205 newly confirmed cases within the state with 692 newly reported fatalities, as of January 25, 2021.
The DSHS vaccine availability dashboard continued to show no available vaccines in the four visible Rusk County hubs. Rusk County reported 1,559 vaccine doses administered, with 1,380 residents having at least one dose, while the remaining 179 are fully vaccinated.
TDCJ reported four active offender cases within East Texas Treatment Facility and one at Billy Moore Correctional Center. ETTF reported 10 employees testing positive for COVID-19, with six reported by BMCC. TDCJ is no longer reporting recovery totals per unit for offenders or employees. ETTF reported having 376 offenders in medical isolation and four on medical restriction, while BMCC continued to report no offenders in isolation and one on medical restriction.
TDCJ reported that 357,147 offenders and 140,231 employees had been tested, all across the state, with 32,581 offenders and a total of 10,230 staff members testing positive and 28,235 offenders and 8,820 staff members listed as recovered. Active offender cases dropped to 2,993 from 3,369, while active employee cases dropped to 1,304 from the last report’s 1,376. Confirmed COVID-related deaths within correctional facilities across the state remained at 77, with those presumed to be COVID-related resting at 102. A total of 61 cases are pending cause of death investigations. TDCJ reported 11 units on precautionary lockdown. The presumed employee death total rose to 37 throughout state facilities.
