According to reports provided by the Department of State Health Services, and information provided by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the estimated active cases within Rusk County dropped significantly to 258 from the last reported total of 317.

The Department of State Health Services reported 1,751 total confirmed cases within the county, a slight increase of 53 from the 1,637 last reported. The county’s recovery total stood at 2,698, a substantial increase from the last reported total of 2,435. The DSHS recently added probable COVID-19 totals for the county, and those numbers rest at 1,270.

The cumulative testing total for the county stands at 16,617. Rusk County’s fatality total grew to 65.

The Department of State Health Services COVID-19 dashboard reports 10,110 newly confirmed cases within the state with 695 newly reported fatalities, as of January 18, 2021.

TDCJ reported six active offender cases within East Texas Treatment Facility and one at Billy Moore Correctional Center. ETTF reported 10 employees testing positive for COVID-19, with 5 reported by BMCC. TDCJ is no longer reporting recovery totals per unit for offenders or employees. ETTF reported having 157 offenders in medical isolation and 8 on medical restriction, while BMCC continued to report no offenders in isolation and one on medical restriction.

TDCJ reported that 347,055 offenders and 134,549 employees had been tested, all across the state, with 31,687 offenders and a total of 9,861 staff members testing positive and 27,087 offenders and 7,826 staff members listed as recovered. Active offender cases dropped to 3,297 from 3,609, while active employee cases dropped to 1,458 from the last report’s 1,581. Confirmed COVID-related deaths within correctional facilities across the state remained at 76, with those presumed to 55 pending cause of death investigations. TDCJ reported 13 units on precautionary lockdown. The presumed employee death total rose at 36 throughout state facilities.
